Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary
Located amidst scenic Vindhya Plateau, just 18 km from the town of Dholpur and 35 km from Ramsagar in eastern Rajasthan, the Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its unique flora and fauna. Once a favorite hunting ground of rulers of Dholpur, it was declared a sanctuary in 1955. Though a small
sanctuary with an area of approx. 60 sq km, the Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
Among commonly found wild animals in Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary are Sambars, Chitals, Blue Bulls, Wild Boars, Sloth Bears, Hyenas, Antelopes and Leopards. It's said that Tigers also inhabited the sanctuary till the end of the nineteen sixties. The Van Vihar Sanctuary is also rich in its avifauna, which includes Cormorants, Darters, Ibis, White-Breasted Water Hens, Moorhens, Jacanas, Ringed Plovers, Sand Pipers and Herons
